Whirlwind Sightseeing

As usual, Sunday is our day to go out and see the sights. This past weekend, Kristen was still on vacation, so Marty and I headed out to a list of places around the city. We went to 5 mosques, 2 temples and 1 step well.

My favorite was Siddi Saiyad Mosque. In it there are stone panel windows that were carved out of a single piece of stone. The panels are very intricate and delicate looking.

One of the other mosques provided me with my first picture of a monkey. Not the best angle, but you cannot be choosy. Besides the monkey, the other interest sight was the "Shaking Minarets". If one pillar starts shaking, the other does too. Sorry, I'm not Superwoman, so I didn't see them shaking.

While going to the step well, we saw more examples of stone carving.

We also noticed we were not very far away from Gandhinagar, the capitol of Gujarat. The capitol has a pink sandstone palace called Akshardham Palace. We were not allowed to take anything but our wallets inside, so the photo is one I found on the internet.
