So, I'm a little behind in updating everyone of my adventures. Over the weekend of June 14-15, the 3 of us from the US took a trip to a nearby city called Udaipur. It is located in what would be a more moutainous area, but more just like the foothills. We got to the city and found out there was a religious festival at the temple just outside our hotel. Unfortunately, this meant our car wasn't making near the hotel for now. If you can access it, there is a good video Marty took of us traveling through the side streets in rickshaws.
Our hotel was the Baba Palace. It was in mid-renovation, but our rooms were pretty nice. Here's some of the painting done around my room.
We went up to the rooftop for lunch and planned what we wanted to do the rest of the afternoon. Jewelry stores ended up being our target. Most of what we saw was out of our budget range though. So, we headed over the a garden and this is what the entry looked like.
The next day we went to City Palace and took a boat ride around the lake. The following are a couple of photos of us at the gates to City Palace, a sign to help you not knock your head, a view of City Palace from the lake, and Lake Palace, respectively. We went to a couple of other places too, but you'll have to take a look at the web albums to see all of those.
On our first day, we saw that you could take camel rides. We decided to have a go at it. Kristen and I doubled up and Marty went on the other one. In the web albums, there is a video of our camel sitting down.
And, a nice photo of sunset at the mountains.
The roadtrip along was quite an experience. Keep in mind the driving style here is much different than what we are used to. You don't need to stay inside your lane and they place odd objects in the road to slow down traffic or just get traffic to be aware of a broken down vehicle. Some of the interesting things we saw......
