This past Saturday, we did a little sightseeing around the local area. Many of the other mentors have been to these places and so Marty and I went to a step well. The well is pretty much all below ground. I read online that they were used for places of rest for weary travelers. As Marty and I began our walk down into the well, Gemar took Marty's camera and started taking our picture.
We continued down the many levels, sometimes walking around throughout the level. You had to walk on a fairly narrow ledge to get across. Once reacing the bottom, here's a view looking up.
Here's a view from the top looking down.
As you can see in some of the photos posted in the web albums, there were lots of carvings throughout the spaces.
Behind the step well was a mosque.
While walking around this area, you had to take your shoes off. I didn't notice it too much on my bare feet until we got to the rooftop. The dark color made for some toasty tootsies!! Here's one of the stairways we went through to get to the roof levels. It was a tight squeeze.
After seeing these places, we went to the Calico Textiles Museum. We weren't allowed our cameras, so no photos here. The tour had some interesting items to see, but we were hot and thirsty. That made for a very long tour.
Back to the apartment for AC and some relaxing. I guess I should pay my bills and do some laundry.
